NHM BRANDING

BRANDING + DESIGN + illustration

I lead and developed several brands and experiences for The Natural History Museum as Senior Art Director. The goal was always to celebrate a commitment to ‘Inspiring Wonder and Curiosity’ in a multi-channel, multi-brand environment. Two branding projects shared below for the Junior Scientist Program and the Bug Fair, an annual event celebrating it’s 25th anniversary.

The Education Department at NHM was in need of a strategy and branding system to encourage current and future members aged 6-12 to attend the Junior Scientist program. Utilizing existing student journals, artwork was made into a system of graphic symbols and applied to a flexible branding system in combination with Scientific language. A strategy was developed to incorporate future Jr. Scientists’ artwork and observations into patches, stickers, and t-shirts in an ongoing part of institutional programming. A journal was designed for participants observations and hypothesis.

NHM’s annual Bug Fair showcases a collection of over 200 bug related vendors and performances. Working with the Education, Guest Services and Scientists, I created a playful system utilizing a core typographic base and multiple entomologically correct antenna, legs, and pinchers that was used across digital, environmental signage, swag/collateral, and advertising.
